Public Sector SMME Payment Assistance Hotline

The South African government resolved in October 2007 to establish a national outline with the aim of rendering a core service to small, medium and micro enterprises SMMEs) to ensure the facilitation of overdue payments. This initiative of government was articulated by former President Thabo Mbeki in his State of the Nation Address in February 2008 – the strategic objective being bridging the gap between the first and second economy in South Africa by providing SMMEs with a higher level of cash-flow security and the opportunity to grow and develop their businesses. Advance Call was appointed in October 2008 to provide this hotline.

All small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) in South Africa benefit from this service. In rendering services to SMMEs, Advance Call liaises with 626 national and provincial government departments, bodies and institutions, local and metro authorities, public entities and business enterprises, as reflected below. During the first year of operation, over R176 million in payments to SMMEs had been facilitated by this call centre.
